Who Needs to be Fired? Bona Drag Edition

I like Bona Drag. I've purchased shoes from them. They are based in Encinitas. They have really unique clothes. They even got their name from a Morrissey song. But sometimes things go very wrong...
Actually this is a weird case where even though the clothes kind of fail, that failure is commendable because it is a byproduct of originality. Respectable failure.


This is actually Betsey Johnson. It's like goth and victorian and western and tea party and I don't know what to do with it.


The spandex and color makes this look like a Power Ranger that never was. Fuschia Ranger. The solid panels on the side make the model look wide. The top part fits really well but I mean...this just isn't my favorite.

The top isn't horrible but wow... the waist and below. Holy widdening, Batman. Plus this color makes me want to sleep.

What was the thought process here? "Time to make a dresss! Let's put pockets on it! THEN let's put metal things on those pockets! THEN let's have seams emerge from those pockets and hit a band around the waist! THEN let's add an excessive amount of boob darts ABOVE that band. THEN let's put a sleeve. But just barely. And let's put a seam down the middle of it. THEN OMG YOU GUYS. you know this key on a computer: } ? You know that one? }}}}} Let's rotate it ninety degrees and make it the neckline. MAGIC. Then, since there clearly isn't enough going on, let's throw a totally trippendicular thick hem line at the bottom. class it up. And, can we make it in the most bleak color ever? We CAN?"

Big Rings!

To get into the Inglourious Basterds screening at Comic Con, you had to have one of these dog tags. I've had it sitting in a drawer for a while but I kind of wanted to wear it...so I made it into a ring. Rings that span more than one finger are the best.

Vindication...?

*UPDATE* No, I need the length.

I kinda feel good about this one. It's not that much moneywise and it's pretty legit, especially if I take some scissors to it around the collar. and it's a small. I feel like I'm compromising length a little bit but I'm not super worried. And, the color is darker than that picture suggests.

Frustration Trifecta

PRETTY SOLID but oh wait it's $140. I don't even have a job.

Frustration II

This dress is almost perfect as far as structure, collar, color and sleeves go (even though it's probably a little short). BUT IT'S TOO BIG.

Frustration.

If I took some scissors to this and made the cut around the collar deeper (even though yesterday I totally hated on square necks), this top COULD be a pretty legit start for my Halloween costume. Unfortunately, there is no skirt and I do not want to be the sucker who has to find one that matches.

Things that drive me nuts, clotheswise

People always ask me to dress them or to give them tips. I basically tell them not to wear any of this and they'll be fine. click pictures for big. Although you don't really want to see any of these clothes bigger than you have to. trust.

1. WHATEVER THIS IS CALLED.
I don't know where this trend came from but it came in quiet and deadly like wave of Anthrax. Only more deadly.




2. Square necks.
This cut just makes me uncomfortable. to wear AND to look at. Sesame Street your shirts. If the neck isn't brought to you by the letter V or the letter U then don't even try.




3. Empire Cut
I am totally baffled by the popularity of this. I mean, it's SO unflattering, It makes everyone look top-heavy and, in turn, much bigger overall than they are. MAYBE I'm biased because I like girls to look like 12 year old boys. I don't know. Whatever. I don't think anyone should want to rock a look that is like shoulder pads for your chest.



4. Unnecessary Smocking
This is my biggest pet peeve. The smocking always bunches UP and moves UP, which means people who wear it constantly are pulling it DOWN. Plus, usually clothing manufacturers include smocking at the worst places. Also, smocking is ugly as sin.

*NOTE, whenever a shirt I like has this crap, I sit with scissors and cut the elastic out. It takes forever.



5. Random Waist Cinching.
If you absolutely NEED a cinch (hint: YOU DON'T), use a belt. This just makes it look like your shirt is tucked into your underwear.



6. Black Lace
This is admittedly less aesthetically horrid than the other trends. But it makes me think of really really tan girls with extensions and a lot of makeup. Which, if that's your thing, COOL, but I'm not a fan.



7. Ugly scarves with ugly fringe
I don't like the whole "bunch it in a triangle around the neck" look. It makes people look like they are suffocating. Then I feel like I'm suffocating. Either way there's just a lack of oxygen all around.



8. This horrid blue color
I just hate this color. I don't even know what this color is called. But, like, even the Smurfs are a better shade of blue. The only thing that makes this color worse is when it's combined with jersey fabric.



8. Kimono cut
I know a lot of people like this, I just don't know why. It basically eliminates the torso. It's also basically a combo of the empire triangle fiasco (#3) and the unnecessary cinching (#5)




9. Weird boob wrinkles
If you don't know why this is horrible, then there's really no help for you.
